Awareness
Realising the need for creating a pan India appeal EBAI worked with various celebrities to create a forceful appeal. Miss World Ms.Aishwarya Rai in 1996 was the first celebrity to endorse eye donation and appeared in a short film which was created by Ogilvy & Mather. The short film generated tremendous interest and helped eye donation movement gain momentum. Many celebrities followed and with the help of these Sight Ambassadors. Many creators produced short films on eye donation in various languages
Eye Banking Standards
EBAI worked with NPCB under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and created the first document on Medical Standards of eye banking. In 2008 amendments to the Medical standards of Eye Banking were introduced.
Advocacy
Eye Banking is governed by Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994. Some of the provisions of the act required modification and new provisions were required to be introduced to promote eye donation and eye banking. EBAI represented to Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to introduce these amendments. The first amendment was introduced in 2002, followed by one amendment in and the recent amendment in 2011.
Accreditation
In association with NABH and Eye Bank Accreditation program has been launched. The accreditation process is elaborate and would help eye banks to benchmark their practices with the best state of art international practices.
